Hello and welcome to my new site, Training Godly Warriors! My name is Kelsea Studebaker and I am the author of the book, "Training Godly Warriors: How to Take Your Children Through Spiritual Basic Training". You might know me from my website and blog, Teacher Gems where I've been creating and selling teaching resources as well as blogging and sharing teaching ideas for the past 12 years.
My background is in special education but I've also taught everything from special education to academically talented. 14 years ago, I left my teaching job to stay home with my new baby and haven't looked back since. Today, I am blessed to be a wife, homeschool mom of seven, entrepreneur, writer and occasional speaker (hope to do more speaking after my book comes out).
Several years ago, I volunteered to host a homeschool moms' retreat. While praying about what kind of inspirational message the Lord would have me share with the moms, I came across Psalms 78. In this psalm, Asaph tells the Israelites not to forget about the Lord as their ancestors had. He says in verse 4, "We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders."
Asaph went on to remind the Israelites how their ancestors had failed to remember the Lord and as a result they continually sinned against Him. It wasn't until the Lord started killing them that they finally repented. But sadly, all they gave Him was lip services and their hearts were not loyal to Him (v. 34-37). Reading those words cut to my heart and made me long for my own children to avoid such a fate. I cried out saying, "Lord! How do we train our children to be godly warriors who don't just know the right things to say but who actually live out their faith in a way that glorifies you?" After voicing that prayer in my heart, it was as if the Holy Spirit whispered to me, "That is what I want you to teach the moms."
Okay...how do I do that? I thought. That led me on a journey to discover what it takes to be a warrior. I decided to look at how the military trains recruits to become warriors starting in basic training. I quickly realized that many of the principles of military basic training could be applied to a spiritual basic training. Long story short, I ended up sharing with the moms what I had learned and they loved it and encouraged me to share it with more moms. Eventually I ended up writing a book about it and now I'm starting this website to share more about what I've been learning in hopes of encouraging others.
I pray this website will be a blessing to you and your family as you strive to live each day eternally focused and train your children to be godly warriors who are on fire for the Lord.
