Praise God He always preserves a remnant! There are still around 15 million people in the United States who have a biblical worldview. Sadly that equates to only 4% of adults. Even more alarming, only 2% of parents with children ages 13 and under, and less than 1% of teenagers, have a biblical worldview.1 According to George Barna, a child’s worldview is largely set by age 13 (and rarely changes after that).

The situation is dire.

But God!

We know that God can do anything! As Bible-believing Christians, we have a great responsibility to be His hands and feet in this lost and broken world. We MUST be intentional about training and discipling our own children in the Lord! There is no room for laziness here.

Let me share a little story to illustrate the seriousness of our situation...

Last spring after having some difficulty swallowing, I discovered a fairly large lump at the base of my neck. This was quite alarming to me as it brought back a flood of memories of when my grandmother was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer. Her only symptoms had been a lump on her neck and trouble swallowing and yet the cancer had spread all the way up to her neck. Doctors gave her six months to live, but she made it two more years. She died when I was twelve, nearly thirteen — around the same age my oldest daughter was when I discovered the lump on my own neck.

The fear made me just want to pretend the lump was not there. I did not want to face the reality of what it could mean, so I downplayed it and tried to ignore it. My wise husband on the other hand was concerned and insisted I get it checked out. Since I had not seen a doctor in years, I had to start from scratch. When I found a doctor and he learned my family history, he immediately ordered an ultrasound. The results showed six nodules in my neck, one of them suspiciously large. He referred me to an endocrinologist who was booked four months out for new patients and wouldn't see me until I had a biopsy done first. After several more weeks of waiting, I underwent a biopsy. The first results came back inconclusive: “Atypia of Undetermined Significance.” More tests followed, and more agonizing weeks of waiting. Finally, the results arrived: negative. Praise God!

Why do I share this story? Because in the long season of waiting, God was refining me and teaching me to trust Him completely — no matter the outcome. The cancer scare was God's gift of mercy, forcing our family to re-evaluate our lifestyle and make some drastic changes. We started by purging our pantry and refrigerator of everything that contained seed oils, high fructose corn syrup, artificial dyes, refined sugar, and other harmful ingredients. We filled two large trash cans. Then we took it further. I began milling my own grain to make fresh bread with the nutritious bran and germ intact (which you won't find in store-bought flours or breads). We also removed every chemical-filled product from our home — laundry detergent, cleaners, and more — and I started making our own: laundry soap, dish soap, body wash, lotion, deodorant, shampoo, and countless other household items.

When facing something as terrifying as cancer, we’re forced to make radical changes to undo the damage that's been done to our bodies. I thank God I didn’t have cancer — but I’m also deeply grateful He used that scare to open our eyes. We saw the hidden dangers lurking in our home, removed them, and replaced them with much healthier options.

Our country is being ravaged by a cancer of its own — an insatiable malignancy that has overtaken 96% of the body. It is a godless, anti-biblical worldview in which people live for themselves, fear man more than God, and have no interest in the only cure found in His Word. Most are completely blind to the disease. Others see it — as obvious as the lump on my neck — yet they do exactly what I did: pretend it isn’t there and hope it will somehow go away on its own.

In His mercy, God is sounding an alarm to His remnant with these statistics just like He did to the church in Sardis when He told them in the book of Revelation:

"I know the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive - but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God. Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don't wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief." -Revelation 3:1-3 (NLT)

A cancer this pervasive demands drastic intervention if we want to breathe life back into our dying nation and keep it from total collapse. Our children’s future hangs in the balance. So what does the treatment plan look like? It starts with our own families.

We must be fiercely intentional about training and equipping our children with a strong biblical worldview. This may require us to re-evaluate our lifestyle and purge some unhealthy habits from our lives. What are we exposing ourselves to in the form of entertainment: movies, social media, video games, books, music, and the like? All these areas contribute to shaping our worldview! What things do we need to get rid of so we can honor God with our time instead? How much of our time are we "spending" versus how much time are we "investing" into things that will have an eternal impact?

We may need to re-evaluate our priorities and cut some activities out of our schedule so we can add more healthy options to our daily menu such as feasting on God's Word. We must dedicate more focused time to intentional and strategic training of our children to know and love the Lord if we do not want Christianity to be completely wiped out in America.

To help our children develop a biblical worldview, we must teach them that God’s Word is unchanging absolute truth, that Jesus literally died on the cross to pay for our sins and rose again, and that He is the only way to heaven. God’s Word must always be our starting point — never to be compromised.

We must help our children learn apologetics - how to defend their faith. And we must immerse them in God's Word daily. We must lead by example which means we must be in the Word daily ourselves, demonstrating Christ-like attitudes and behaviors, serving others, sharing the gospel, and more.

I highly recommend reading more about how to intentionally equip your children with a biblical worldview. George Barna's book "Raising Spiritual Champions" is a great place to start as he describes the seven cornerstones necessary for developing a biblical worldview. My book "Training Godly Warriors" will also give you lots of practical ways to help your children build a firm foundation of faith in Christ and prepare them for the spiritual battles they will face in this life.

Fellow Christian parents, with the Lord’s help, it is up to us to stop this cancer from spreading to our own children. We cannot sit idly by while Satan destroys the few healthy cells that remain. Instead, we must strengthen our children's spiritual immune system by equipping them with a biblical worldview rooted in truth, knowledge, and unwavering faith — so they can resist the enemy. And who knows, maybe God will even allow our nation's health to be revived and our godly heritage restored one more time before He comes to take His remnant home.
